How we work
We provide services that include comprehensive diagnostics, psychotherapy, medication management, psychological evaluations, and consultations. We take into account not only patient presenting issues but also a review of family systems and dynamics.
We provide a collaborate environment between patient, treating clinician, and the referring provider. Focus is placed on creating a treatment team approach with a synergy around the patient.
We provide a compassionate environment where the patient simply comes first. Our services are driven by patient needs with a personalized and professional emphasis.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
TMS is a non-invasive method of brain stimulation that relies on electromagnetic induction using an insulated coil placed over the scalp, focused on an area of the brain thought to play a role in mood regulation. The coil generates brief magnetic pulses, which pass easily and painlessly through the skull and into the brain. The pulses generated are of the same type and strength as those generated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines. When these pulses are administered in rapid succession, it is referred to as “repetitive TMS “ or “rTMS”, which can produce longer lasting changes in brain activity.
rTMS has been shown to be a safe and well-tolerated procedure that can be an effective treatment for patients with depression who have not benefitted from antidepressant medications or cannot tolerate antidepressant medications due to side-effects. TMS was FDA-cleared in 2008 and now is widely available at clinics and hospitals across the country.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
EMDR is thought to be effective because recalling distressing events is often less emotionally upsetting when your attention is diverted. This allows you to be exposed to the memories or thoughts without having a strong psychological response.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the U.S.’ first new major depression treatment in years: a fast-acting esketamine nasal spray related to the club drug ketamine, which is itself a promising treatment for depression. The esketamine spray, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen Pharmaceuticals and sold under the brand name Spravato, is intended for adults with treatment-resistant depression. When taken in conjunction with oral antidepressants under medical supervision, Spravato has been shown to ease depression systems in as little as hours. We are proud to be the first practice in the Mount Pleasant area to offer this as an option.
Bariatric Surgery Evaluations and Counseling
We provide mental health clearance evaluations for weight loss surgery. A mental health evaluation is a prerequisite for bariatric surgeries. We also provide ongoing counseling after the surgery to help ensure mental health stability and healthy weight loss.
Along with therapy, we have a certified wellness professional who works with clients one-on-one or in group settings to help them achieve their personal wellness goals including weight loss, boosting energy, or sleeping better. They will act as a supportive mentor and guide to help their clients discover which foods and lifestyle makes them feel best. They are accountability partners who give an unbiased approach to their clients and empower them to live the lives they love.
